We’ve heard of ‘all-in’, we know what ‘cold turkey’ entails but why does every one keeping insisting life is all about balance? Well let’s explore what balance is, why it is individual and why it is important to assess and adjust how you invest your energy and spend your minutes every day.
‘Balance’ as defined in the Oxford Dictionary is: a situation in which different elements are equal or in the correct proportions. Well this makes sense, but how do we achieve this state of equilibrium and step towards achieving it for ourselves?
As you may know, TP promotes three key pillars of health: Exercise, Nutrition and Lifestyle. This is because we have seen that these are the key areas that unlock the doorway to good health. Ok great, but how do we start in our own journey to finding our happy equilibrium?
Step one in finding balance generally starts with asking what you want. What do you want for yourself, in your life, your career, your family and your self development? Ask this question completely selfishly, independent of your family, boss, significant other and cats/ dogs. Of course, this is hard and it is confronting, but it is an important step towards living a true and authentic life. So go on, sit back and think about it: What do you authentically and honestly want with no regards to oppression or any limitations?
Remember that we have limited energy and time and unfortunately, it is not possible to choose becoming a superstar athlete, a top CEO, a famous actor and also break records as Olympic athlete. This exercise requires us to break down and prioritise what is most important to us and then actively engage in investing this amount of time and energy to each portion.
This is how famous athletes and almost everyone at the top of their game becomes the best. Going ‘all-in’ literally means, sacrificing in many other areas so that the person achieves the balance they want. However for most of us, we want to be happy and healthy and we want to be successful in our career while enjoying time with ourselves, family and friends. This is why balance is individual and that often finding balance starts with finding out what you want.
After you know what you want, the task becomes investing the right amount of time and energy into the areas you have already prioritised. It sounds easy, but we all know it’s not as simple as that!
In our experience, it pays to be conscious and actively stepping towards the person you want to be every day. Here are some take away tips to help you find the balance you want in your life and to ensure you are ‘happy tired’ at the end of the day, not 'unfulfilled tired’:

With dry January over, now what do you do?
I'm jumping straight into it this week, how many times a week do I hear 'oh I can't not drink' or 'you don't understand, I have work lunches. It's a lot. I would say 5+ in fact. But quite frankly its bullshit. Yep, that's right I said bullshit. There is not a single excuse I have not heard before. From traders to bankers and stay at home Mums. Whether you're a CEO or a part-time nanny, HK has them all and we have worked with each of you.
If we have worked with you, then we know you made some incredible life changes for the better. If these hard-working and dedicated individuals can you do it then so can you.
So let's look at the two most common myths I hear and dispel them right out of the block.....We WANT you to succeed and you can. It has been done and is being done right now, so let's offer a solution to each problem and get you on your way.
Myth #1 - I don't have time to eat well in HK. Response - Bullshit.
First things first, do you know what eating well means. If you are unsure or want to know more ask us. Check out our previous blog on fat loss 101. If you have the money to spend on eating out daily you have the money to invest in an expert in changing your nutritional habits. We are creatures of habit and studies shows that unless we create a new habit 80% of us lose weight and regain it or we don't start in the first place.
Who ever you ask or go to for nutritional advice if they tell you to eat less or give you a ready-made meal plan to follow. It's probably not going to get you very far. Nutrition is extremely personal to you and your lifestyle. It's taken you years to get to where you are and it's not going to take weeks to get you out.
HK has an abundance of ever-growing food delivery companies, they can do everything now a days from prepare and cook 7 days worth of food, and deliver to your office or home each morning and even offer a personalised macro nutrient break down. Yes its pricey BUT what price can you put on your heath.

In Hong Kong, many of us are blessed to have a domestic helper. If this is the case you definitely have no excuse. Have your lunches made and take them to work. FAILURE TO PREPARE IS PREPARING TO FAIL.
Myth #2 - I have to drink its work lunches. Also Bullshit.
I have very little sympathy for this one. This entire situation has a few grey areas. Firstly and most obviously you are clearly able to hold down a job and make important decisions regarding the company you work for as well as the health and wellness of your family. So why have you managed to lose the basic human function of choice when business lunches pop up.
Here is a little secret; you DONT have to. It's literally that simple.
It's incredible to see the transformation in the clients we work with. I receive messages telling me they had a work lunch and for the first time ever they didn't order wine OR they chose the restaurant according to there own preferred dietary requirements. They got a buzz out of being in control. How did they do it?
Write down ahead of time what you will drink? It's non-negotiable. Once you have that decision made if you're an adult and are able to stick to your word then you have nothing to worry about. Don't be caught at the table with the menu in hand ummm....and arhhh...but I do like red with my steak, that's terrible planning and clearly you didn't want to not drink enough. Say to your self out loud, I am going to drink soda and lime at lunch today! Trust me it works if you WANT it to.
Lastly but not least, WANT IT! Set realistic expectations for your self. Do you truly want to have a week of not drinking just to see if you can, or because you know that drinking leads to poor decision-making and your fed of starting from scratch every Monday? Whats your reason, could you start with one particular lunch you have coming up....Do it? Pick a date coming up so start now.
